Kurt O. Lund, Ph.D.
Thermal Management

Dr. Lund is the founder and President of ACESystems, a California corporation since 1995.  He has over 20 years of mechanical engineering experience in the industry, with his focus on thermal management and energy systems.  His breadth of experience extends from component fabrication, system integration and project management to advanced design and mathematical modeling.

While on the research staff of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and as associate professor at California State Universities at Fullerton and San Diego, his academic work included

fundamental studies in fluid flow and heat transfer, terrestrial and space-based energy systems, spacecraft thermal management and component design, and micro-augmented fluid flow and heat transfer, with over 30 refereed publications. 

Recent work includes the following:

  • Co-invention of selective rapid thawing and PCR systems.

  • Fluid dynamical and thermal analyses of biomedical devices.

  • Analytical and experimental investigations of fluidized bed systems.

  • Analysis of space crystal growth, and of carbon-composite structures.

  • Mathematical modeling of a dynamic fuel pump for rocket propulsion.

  • Advanced design and analysis, for high-temperature chemical processing.

  • Complete design and fabrication of a space-based laser cooling system.

Dr. Lund received his PhD in Engineering Sciences from the University of California at San Diego in 1978.  He is a registered professional engineer (California) and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Currently, Dr. Lund manages ACESystems, and leads the technical development of its Thermo-Select products, as well as the technical services provided by the company.
